Sun Pavilion Wedding | Hannah & Simon
Groom's Preparations: The Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Ceremony & Reception: Sun Pavilion, Valley Gardens, Harrogate, North Yorkshire
.....and the award for Most Camera-Shy Groom Of The Year 2010 goes to.....Simon!
Most people are at least a little bit camera-shy, it's only natural. I hate having my photo taken with a passion so I can sympathise with how Simon was feeling.
Sometimes it can be quite a challenge to get people to relax in front of the camera - if you feel tense, it will always show in the photographs - so that is why I like to arrive bright and early, preferrably before everyone starts to get ready, to give them a chance to get the nerves out of the way before we get to the important parts of the day.
A pre-wedding shoot is an ideal way to show the couple that having their photographs taken is actually a lot of fun and not something to be afraid of, as well as being a great way for us to get to know each other.
Thankfully, after a bit of coaxing from his friends, Simon got into the swing of things. Hannah, on the other hand, was up for anything from the word go!
Sun Pavilion is an amazing Art Deco building with a huge stained glass domed roof, set in the beautiful Valley Gardens, a stunning setting for a wedding!
The weather was a bit hit-&-miss but the sun shone for long enough for us to do everything we wanted, although later on you could just detect that little bit of a chill in the air that reminds you that summer is drawing to a close. To be honest, though, I don't think it would have made any difference to Hannah and Simon if we'd had freezing fog followed by a plague of locusts!
Congratulations to the (very) happy couple!

Oulton Hall Wedding: Lisa & Jason
Ceremony: All Saints Church, Crofton, Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Reception: Oulton Hall, Oulton, Leeds, West Yorkshire
The only way I can describe what was going on at Jason's when I arrived to photograph him getting ready is total chaos. After a heavy "celebrating" session the night before, both Jason and best man, Jez, were having difficulty focussing on the tasks at hand. At one point Jez asked me to iron his shirt for him! He eventually did it himself but managed to set the smoke alarm off in the process! There seemed to be an awful lot of rushing around and not much getting done. Anyway, all was well in the end and we arrived at the pretty little All Saints church in Crofton in good time.
Lisa arrived fashionably late but looking serene but excited.
After the service, it was straight over to Oulton Hall, an 18th century mansion house which is now part of the De Vere Hotels group. It was a beautiful day, yet again, which meant we could make full use of the stunning gardens for all the group photos and loads of nice intimate ones of Lisa & Jason on their own to the soothing sounds of a string quartet, Mirage. Oulton Hall is one of my favourite venues. There are so many possibilities for creative photography both inside & out.
The evening reception was held in the Claret Jug Restaurant in the grounds of Oulton Hall and entertainment was provided by the excellent soul band Mancini & The Hitmen (highly recommended!).
Any wedding at Oulton Hall is a pleasure to photograph but when the couple is as easy to direct and happy to co-operate with what must seem at times like some strange ideas, it (hopefully) leads to some cracking photos. See what you think!
Congratulations to Lisa & Jason and thanks for a most enjoyable day!

Thorpe Park Hotel Wedding | Nicola & Martin
Ceremony: All Saints Church, Barwick in Elmet, West Yorkshire
Reception: Thorpe Park Hotel, Leeds
What a lovely day for a wedding! I would imagine Nicola and Martin were very relieved to see the sun come out at lunchtime after a week of rain and wind - I know I was!
After a couple of scoops in the pub, Martin, who kept assuring me he wasn't nervous, made his way over to the beautiful village church (closely followed by 140 guests) to await Nicola's arrival.
Nicola looked amazing and very elegant and Martin, well, he didn't stop smiling all day!
It was quite a late start with a 4pm ceremony so the rest of the day flew by and we were at the first dance before we knew it.
Congratulations to a very special couple!
