Nicola at Carr Hall Castle has kindly arranged a news article about my work on the Castle's website. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you are probably sick to death of me banging on about what a great place Carr Hall Castle is but I'm afraid you'll just have to put up with it! The fact is that it has that indefinable magical, fairy tale quality that most other wedding venues lack and it really is a very special place.
I hope I can go back there soon to photograph some more weddings!

Carr Hall Castle Wedding: Lyndsey & Andy's Pre-Wedding Shoot
Lyndsey & Andy travelled down from Newcastle to make all the final arrangements for their wedding, which included a final run-down of what we will be doing on the day and a leisurely wander around the venue, the incredible Carr Hall Castle, for a few informal shots to help them get used to being photographed.
We didn't have a great deal of time, as Lyndsey & Andy had a lot of organising to pack in while they were down here so we just had a quick stroll round the Castle and fired off a few shots as we went.
A big thank you to Nicola and the staff at Carr Hall Castle for allowing us to wander around unhindered (and thanks for the chocolates as well, although perhaps they were meant for Lyndsey & Andy!)
I can't wait to come back for the actual wedding!

Holdsworth House Wedding: Caroline & Neil
Ceremony & Reception: Holdsworth House, Halifax
Caroline and Neil are a very bubbly couple, in fact it's a job to get a word in edgeways at times ;-) Fortunately, that meant there was plenty of banter and it led to some cracking photos. Caroline in particular has a vast repertoire of very articulate facial expressions, as you can see below.
I arrived at their house to find Neil & usher, Andy so relaxed that I thought I'd gone to the wrong house! Gav, on the other hand was coping with mayhem with Caroline & the bridesmaids. Thankfully, shirts were ironed, shoes were polished and we arrived at Holdsworth House in plenty of time.
Last time we were at Holdsworth House, we very nearly got snowed in and hardly anyone turned up for the evening reception. It was quite different this time with the warm early spring sunshine making the place look stunning. What a great venue! The House itself was built in the 17th Century and retains many of its original features, such as oak-panelled rooms, huge fireplaces and tiny leaded windows. It certainly has plenty of scope for some amazing photos and the staff are very professional and friendly and know exactly how to make the couple feel special. The whole ambience is very relaxed, which was perfect for Caroline & Neil.
Congratulations to Caroline & Neil and I hope you enjoyed your special day as much as I did!

In case you were wondering, yes, we did run through all the corny "Bridal / Bridle" and "Horse & Groom" jokes we could think of. It would have been rude not to!

The keen-eyed among you will notice that this set of images are all in black & white (heavily influenced by the work of Simon Mark Whitten - there, I've admitted it!). Caroline & Neil haven't opted for an all black & white album, it's just that I thought it would be nice to show that it could be done - purely a bit of self-indulgence on my part, really.
It always seems to be the black & white shots that everyone picks out as being their favourites from my sample albums, although whether anyone would be brave enough to go for an all black and white wedding album, I don't know. I've photographed a number of weddings where the colour scheme has been black and white, although most couples opt for something more colourful - one couple even had a bright cerise & orange theme, which despite what you might think, actually worked really well.

Carr Hall Castle: My Favourite Yorkshire Wedding Venue!
I was thrilled to learn recently that I will be returning to the magical Carr Hall Castle, near Halifax, to photograph a wedding in May. Yorkshire is blessed with some amazing wedding venues but there is something truly special about Carr Hall Castle, a fact that was recognised by the Channel 5 series, "I Own Britain's Best Home" a couple of years ago in which the Castle beat 23 other finalists to win the public vote.
Originally a folly, built in the mid 19th century by a wealthy Halifax mill owner, Carr Hall Castle was never intended to be inhabited and was a virtual ruin for many years before being renovated at great expense by a couple of local businessmen and it is now one of the country's most exclusive wedding venues.
The Castle stands in a beautiful secluded wooded valley and boasts a deer park, a watermill, a lake and an indoor pool but what most impressed me about the place was how the owners had managed to tread the fine line between opulence and cosiness and got the balance just right.
It really is the perfect venue for a small, intimate wedding and I can't wait to get back there and start shooting again!
