Clayton Cricket Club: New Clubhouse Building Work - 16th April 2011

Only 2 weeks to go now until the first match and the final push to get the changing rooms, showers & toilets finished on time is well under way. The main bar area was being plastered and everyone was fascinated by the skill of the two guys on stilts who were doing the ceiling.

Meanwhile, back at the cricket ground, work has moved on unbelievably quickly. The roof's on, the scaffolding's down and, most importantly, the bar's being built. With only 3 weeks to go to the start of the season, the race is on to get the main areas finished. Watch this space!

Clayton Cricket Club: New Clubhouse Building Work - 5th March 2011

It was freezing cold and drizzling this morning when I arrived at the Clayton Cricket Club ground to take a few photos of the building work on the new clubhouse, so (hard) hats off to all the volunteers who braved the weather to help out.
Work has really cracked on, especially considering that it's all being done in everyone's spare time (special mention to local builder, Paul 'Cornish' Cornforth who's generous donation of pretty much all his spare time is well and truly above and beyond the call of duty) and also considering several weeks were lost to the bad weather in December. The basic structure is up and the roof timbers were starting to be put into place so it's looking like a proper building at last. It's surprising how big it is compared to the old clubhouse, which was demolished back in October - CLICK HERE to see a few photos of that.
I'll be back in a few weeks to see how things are coming on but it all looks very promising.

Clayton Cricket Club: Demolition Day

The big day finally arrived for Clayton Cricket Club when the old clubhouse was to be demolished to make way for a brand spanking new one. It's amazing, you ask for volunteers to do the teas on a Saturday afternoon and everyone's got a cast iron excuse but ask for volunteers to demolish the clubhouse and everyone's there at 7:30am on a drizzly October Saturday morning with a lump hammer in their hand, raring to get on with it!
I was asked to record the historic event (and the subsequent building work) for posterity and I have to say, it was a right laugh! Health and safety wasn't exactly top of the agenda but everyone got stuck in and the job was finished by 11:00am.

Sports Photography: Howard's Last Innings, 4th September 2010

Clayton's 1st XI's crucial last game of the season & Howard's last game of his career.

After a long and illustrious playing career with (mainly) Clayton CC, 1st XI captain, Howard Stead has finally decided to call it a day.
The final game of the season, away at Southowram, was a bit of a cliffhanger with both teams fighting to avoid relegation.
Howard was determined to go out on a high and that's exactly what he did, scoring 83 runs before being caught out, and playing the pivotal role in ensuring Clayton won the day and avoided the drop.






In the thick of the action, as always!
